A process and a burner for the combustion of at least periodically explosive gases without any danger of backfiring are described in which the gases to be burnt are introduced with spin through an annular passage (3), whose function is to stabilise the gas steam, into a combustion chamber (4) where they are burnt with formation of a supercritical spin field with peripheral forward flow and inner back flow. <IMAGE>
