A drive mechanism for the picker of a weaving loom is described comprising a rotating drive shaft and a crank drive coupled to a lever mechanism which transfers the reciprocating motion to the picker or pickers of the loom. The leverl mechanism is so designed that the force exerted on the picker is purely axial. This is achieved by mounting the picking stick with its foot in a vertical roller guide. The crank drive is attached by means of a lever to the centre of the picking stick which is also linked via an auxiliary lever arm rotating about a fixed pivot. The mechanism eliminates the severe bush wear which normally occurs in the picker bushing due to the lateral forces that have to be absorbed.
