The hair dryer has a handle (3) which is mounted for articulated movement on the housing (2) which contains the blower so that in its basic position the handle forms a bar with the housing. The rotary joint (16) for the handle is provided with several ratchets (7, 8) which can fix the handle at different angles to the housing. The rotation of the handle can be restricted to 180 deg. right or left by a stop (9). This stop can be omitted if the rotary joint is designed as an electromagnetic rotary coupling.
