Vibration damper for drive shafts in motor vehicles - has shaft located in flange with rubber mountings

The damper causes the decay of torsional- and bending-vibrations in the rotating shaft, and consists of a flange surrounding and fixed on the shaft. The flange is mounted via rubber cushions in an outer ring, the bore of which is at a prescribed small distance from the shaft. The ring pref. has an angular or "L"-shaped cross-section, one leg of the "L" extending radially inwards towards the drive shafts. The ring can be made by fixing a disc to a short tube. The main mass of the ring is pref. located between the fixing arms mounted on the flange, the rubber cushions being fixed or vulcanised on the arms and being prestressed.
