<p>The alkyd-based polycondensation prod. contg. COOH gps. is prepd. by (a) mixing the polycondensation prod., with acid number 5-30, OH number 50-140, Gardner-Holdt viscosity at 20 degrees C (50% in butyl glycol) D-M, and 6-10 wt.% polyethylene glycol with mol. wt. 3000, with alkali or a strong organic nitrogenous base, and nb) dispersing the mixt. in the strong alkaline medium (pH >8.5) in water, at 80-98 degrees C under normal pressure, or at 100-120 degrees C under increased pressure up to 5 atmos. excess. The prod. is an air-drying resin which can be baked, has improved drying properties, and gives high quality, glossy films. The dispersion is stable on storage. Strongly basic pigments can be added without causing thickening or pptn. The prod. can be used in coating compsns. for appln. to wood, synthetics, paper, concrete, brickwork, plaster or (non)ferrous metals, esp. to sheet metals.</p> |
