Process for the extraction of nitrogen from flue gas, by liquidisation and re-evaporisation, for use as a cooling agent for the storage and transport of methane or natural gas. For use in the petrochemical industry and permitting natural gas to be liquidised in the country in which it is to be consumed, thereby avoiding large investment at the loading point. An alternative provides the extraction of CO2, and its use for the same purpose. Two-stage rectification is used for extracting oxygen from the nitrogen/oxygen mixture remaining when the gases of higher boiling point have been boiled off after absorption. Flue gas is connected to a low-temp. absorbtion plant for CO2 while the solvent is regenerated. The nitrogen pipe from the absorbtion column is led to a heat-exchanger in which the nitrogen liquifies and is cooled by liquid natural gas or methane. |
