<p>An electro-mechanical safety system for a machine, has a rotary processing roll on a fixed axis and a stationary pressure roller on a parallel axis which can be closed in towards and moved back from the processing roll. Displacement of the pressure roller is obtd. via a mechanical linkage from a reversible, high torque motor unit. The motor unit can be held under power at either end of its travel, i.e. with the roller advanced in its closed position or retracted into the open position. An emergency, mechanical trip is located near to the nip of the roll and roller. When the trip is depressed, contacts are made in the electrical circuit so that the motor unit is driven to displace the pressure roller the 'open' position. The pressure roller and its displacing linkage are pref. designed so that the roller falls by gravity to the open position when the motor exerts no torque, e.g. in the case of power failure. Provides safety system for machines used for fleshing, scraping, depilating etc. of animal hides and skins partic. for the leather industry. The system is simple, reliable, inexpensive to fit and "fail-safe" in operation. System requires manual reset after tripping.</p> |
