The cutting blade for a rotary lawnmower giving a scythe action is of flat material with a rectangular end and a triangular end (4). The rectangular part incorporates the cutting edge (3) part of the way down its long side, and the other end, widens out to form the counterweight. The centre of rotation is nearer the sloping end to give a balanced blade. In a second design, one corner (5) of the sloping end is bent up at right angles to form a ventilating fan. A further design has the rectangular end stepped or cranked, to reduce the length of the drive spindle. Another design has the other end cranked so that grass clinging to the blade is removed against the housing.
