The metering device delivers toothpaste from a tube onto a toothbrush, the pressing movement of the brush being transmitted by rack and pinion, screws and nuts etc. onto the piston forming part of the tube. It has two one-way couplings, the first acting between the sections of a two-part spindle, while the other is fitted in the hub of a gear so as to allow the latter to slide and turn on a spindle fixed to the frame. The top part of this spindle is of smaller diameter. A further gear is fixed to the topmost section of the two-part spindle, and meshes with the gear containing the coupling.
