Rapid glow plug heating for diesel engine - supplying overcurrent to plug until glow temp. is reached and then pulsing current

For rapid heating of the glow igniters of diesel engines the igniters are fed with excess current until they reach their glow temperature, after which they are supplied with current intermittently. The time taken by the igniters to reach their glow temperature is shortened, and they are kept at this temperature until the engine has started. Indicating lamps light intermittently when the glow temperature has been reached. If the engine temperature is initially equal to or higher than the required starting temperature the lamps do not light up, indicating that the engine is ready for starting.
