The shock absorber piston has throughflow apertures which issue into ring channels covered by a plate spring pressed over a clamp ring on the piston rod. The ring channels (6, 10) are eccentric to the inner locating surface (18) of the plate spring (11) and the plate spring is in turn eccentric to its inner location surface (18) and to its corresponding ring channels. The absorber provides uninterrupted operation with an increase in pumping force commensurate with the increase in piston speed. The plate spring (11) lifts only at a predetermined point and from then on gradually over its whole periphery.
