<p>PURPOSE:To provide a sector shaft turning mechanism for steering gear system, in which swing arm for turning the sector shaft is resiliently supported by a retainer in the manner that it can be turned freely, whereby it is prevented that an excessive force may not be acted to the sector shaft at the time of sdjusting or inspecting its backlash. CONSTITUTION:Sector shaft (3) turning mechanism A for steering gear unit 1, necessary for inspecting and adjusting its backlash, comprised a swing arm 15 having one end spline-coupled with one end of sector shaft 3, a retainer 18 having nozzles 16, 17 for ejecting compressed air supplied from compressor or the like on both sides of the swing arm 15 and adapted for holding the arm 15 resiliently in the direction of its movement, and a driving means including motor 20 for rotating eccentric cam 19 which reciprocally moves said retainer 18. In the above arrangement, turning angle of the swing arm 15 is transmitted to angle measuring mechanism B where the truning angle is detected as displacement, and backlash compensating mechanism C is operated in accordance with the output of said mechanism B.</p> |
