The safety switch has an oscillator (1), with a coil arranged in a ferrite dish core (1<!>). This dish core is placed on a fixed part of a machine. The oscillator (1), with its coil, generates a high frequency field (F), which is directed at a counterpart (2) made of sintered ferrite, which is placed on a moveable part of the machine. When the counterpart (2) approaches the HF field from the dish core, the electrical properties of the oscillator change, and switching is triggered. If a circuit component fails, or there is a power failure, the relays (9) go into a defined switching state. <IMAGE>
