An IC engine with exhaust recirculation has a cylinder head (1) having an inlet passage (3) connected to an exhaust passage (2) by a transfer duct (6) through which exhaust gases can be recirculated. The duct may be oblique so as to have a downstream component on entering the respective passages. Alternatively the duct may be constituted by an ejector pipe having one end directed downstream in the exhaust passage and another end directed upstream in the inlet passage. In yet another alternative the duct is controlled by a valve.
