Fluid, pumpable, storage-stable organic dispersions, which harden with little shrinkage, contain by wt (i) 35-59% unsatd. polyesters, (ii) 40-64% co-polymerisable vinyl monomers, (iii) 1-20% ethylene polymers (I) consisting of C2H4/vinyl acetate- and/or C2H4/vinyl propionate copolymers, contg. 0.5-20 wt % vinyl ester and in which =50 wt % of copolymer can be replaced by polyethylene, and opt. (iv) 15% dispersants. They are pref. used in prodn of compression- and injection-moulded articles, e.g. for car bodywork, and resin-bonded glass fibre mats, also prodn. of large light casings and furniture. Addn. of (I) to polyester/monomer system reduces shrinkage of polymerised compsns Articles have smooth, glossy, flawless surfaces, coloured homogeneously in dark shades, without marbled effects, and may be stove-lacquerted. |
