The jig has an upper welding head consisting of a pair of tongs which rapidly clamp an electrode bar. A vertically driven plunger can drive the bar downwards into a removable holder. A new bar can be moved horizontally from a storage magazine until the new car is coaxial with the tongs. The plunger then pushes the new bar into the tongs. The bar is pref. round, with a conical taper on its bottom end adjacent to the workpiece, which is placed on a stationary, lower electrode with a large surface. The tongs are pref. spring-loaded, and can be raised so the holder can be driven horizontally to receive the electrode bar being replaced. Used in the mass prodn. of small parts, e.g. relay springs, where two welds can be made simultaneously, but electrode wear is rapid. The jig permits rapid replacement of worn electrodes, so there is min. loss of prodn. time.
|
