FLUORESCENT BENZANTHRONIC DYES

A plastosoluble fluorescent organic dye is disclosed that is derived from benzanthrone, and having the general formula: (I) wherein X = -H or -Br; and Y = -H, -OCH3 or -OC2H5. A process for the preparation of a dye of the general formula (I) is also disclosed. These dyes are useful in the bulk dyeing of polystyrene, polymethylmethacrylate, rigid PVC, polyethylene, acrylonitrile/ butadiene/styrene copolymers, polycarbonates or mineral oils.
