The application is to the control of commutation in an inverter feeding a synchronous machine. The subtransient voltage (e") is employed as the control signal as, during transient conditions, it is virtually an invariable quantity. By its use the triggering of the commutation circuits is made more accurate, thus the operating range of the inverter is extended beyond what is permissible with conventional commutation signals. In a practical application the subtransient voltage is evaluated in a computer from the synchronous machine equations. Measurements of voltage and current, and also field voltage position, are combined with the known machine constants in calculation of the required quantities. |
