摘要 In a control system for DC motors M1, M2 driving an under-water vehicle and controlled by semi-conductor regulators St11, St21 and batteries B1, B2 switched between series and parallel, the noise occurring during such switching is minimized by providing semi-conductor regulators St12, St22 for field windings F1, F2 of the motors and adjusting the field current, and hence the motor back EMF, so that the armature current is reduced to zero prior to battery switching. Switches HS1, HS2 are closed with batteries B1, B2 in parallel and regulators St11, St21 increase the armature voltage to that of the batteries, whereupon regulator by-pass switches S1, S2 are closed. The field current is reduced to double the motor speed and then rapidly increased to double the back EMF, whereupon switch S12 is closed at zero current to connect the batteries in series. Finally the field current is regulated to adjust the armature current to a desired value. Similar control is used for a system having four batteries. Figs. 2, 3 & 4 (not shown). Switches S1, S2 further reduce the noise emanating from the vehicle by reducing the number of continuously conducting thyristors and hence the system cooling requirement. <IMAGE>
