Parent patent described mfr. of coated tennis racket strings with soft plastics or rubber, pref. foamed, by protectively covering the frame of a ready-strung racket with removable adhesive tape; and dip or spray coating the racket once or several times into or with, a suitable coating soln. until the resulting coating has the desired thickness. The gradually setting coating is then roughened by treatment with a serrated roller. In this addn. to improve wear-resistance of the coating, the same is either plastics-coated or metallised. Also, to give a tennis ball better "grip" on the strings, these are sprinkled with fine sand or similar granular material whilst the coting is still sticky to give them, after setting, a surface similar to that of sandpaper.
