<p>The temp. controller consists of a panel-mounted sensor comprising a moulded housing fitted with an optical transmitter (4) and receiver (3). The inlet/outlet windows of the transducer are on the underside of the moulded projection so that the light beam, which is transmitted vertically downwards can be reflected from an object, e.g. a hand (6), back to the detector. The signals from the light detector are amplified and passed to an amplitude discriminator. A control signal can thus be derived which is proportional to the proximity of the hand to the detector housing since the amount of reflected light will vary in proportion to the distance. The device can be used to control the water temp. of sanitary installations and the like.</p> |
