<p>An annular seal comprises a hoop of spring steel protected by a sheath of material inert to a fluid passing through a rotary bearing. The spring has a 'C' section profile with the legs deployed either radially or parallel to the coupling axis. The depth or splay of the seal profile is slightly greater than the gap of the seat contg. the seal. Claims include seals with sheath of PTFE, opt. contg. powdered fillers. Used esp. for coupling fittings onto a hose via a rotary coupling, to combine the creep resistance of the metal component with the chemical resistance of the sheathing material.</p> |
