<p>Underwater pipelines, offshore structures etc. can be protected against wash-out erosion by a bag of plastic fibre mat, subdivided into tubular chambers. A sledge with skids, pulled along the sea bed by a ship, has filler pipes over which the fibre mat bag has been wrinkled. As grout is injected from hoses into the filler pipes, the bag is gradually pushed off the sledge and is deposited on the sea bed. This serves all deep sea diver operations. The sledge can be given a concave profile if the protection is to be applied to a pipeline on the sea bed.</p> |
