The optical protective device employs two plug pins (2, 14) provided with central optical fibres (1, 15). These pins are guided in a common sleeve (3) over a part of their length. The sleeve is arranged in a coupling housing (5). One of the two plug pins can be inserted axially. At least one closing device (8) is positioned in the path of insertion of this plug pin inside the coupling housing. Several such closing devices may be arranged at intervals behind one another in the coupling housing. The closing device may consist of at least one elastic disc having several slots passing through the face centre.
