<p>Appts. for extra-corporeal treatment of blood by simultaneous haemodialysis and haemofiltration incorporates a semi-permeable membrane exchanger, blood and dialysis liq. circulation lines and a balance. THe blood circulation line includes a pump and a connection for a line through which a substitution liq. enters the blood. The substitution liq. lines includes a pump which transfers the liq. from a substitution liq. receiver. The dialysis liq. circulates from a second receiver contg. new dialysis liq., through a metering pump to the dialysis compartment of the exchanger. An extrn. pump connected to the outlet of this compartment transfers used dialysis liq. to a third receiver. The three receivers with their contents are on a balance. The equilibrium position of the beam, obtd. after calibration of the balance with the receivers, is maintained constant after start-up of the pumps delivering substitution liq. to the blood circulation line and dialysis liq. to the exchanger, by an electronic controller regulating the extn. pump. Problems associated with existing appts. are avoided. These include complexity, lack of pump interdependence and the need to handle large large quantities of dialysis liq. The appts. is simple and economic. It allows the clinician to vary at will the relative magnitudes of transfers of small and medium molecules, according to the disease being treated and the exchanger being used.</p> |
