A suction hood for purifying air in a kitchen or a similar place comprises a box contg. a device for circulating the air with the suction opening covered by a grid which supports a filter mat and which extends over one face of the box. The edge of the grid bears on a frame surrounding the suction opening. The filter mat can be pinched at its edge between the edge of the grid and the frame, and acts as a fluid-tight joint. The edge of the filter pref. overruns the protective grid on two opposite sides and in operation it is pinched between the grid and a folded branch of the frame. The edges of the grid and frame are pref. provided with a rib and a groove respectively and the rib fits into the groove with the filter mat between. The pinching of the edge of the filter mat between the edge of the protective grid and the frame provides a simple way of preventing any passage of non-filtered air through the appts.
