The rotary positive displacement engine has a cylindrical piston (B), free to rotate around an eccentric (C) on a central shaft in a cylindrical casing (A). Rectangular blades (1-4) free to slide in radial slots in the piston subdivide the working chamber by sealing against the casing. Gearing rotates the piston in opposition to the eccentric. Four sealing blades are fitted 90 deg. apart - only three being necessary functionally - to permit fitting of a catalyser to reduce pollutants in the exhaust. With this configuration, inlet and exhaust openings in the casing are 180 deg. apart; the ignition device 90 deg. from the inlet opening in the direction of piston rotation. No valves are needed.
|
