PURPOSE:To clearly read an image in the vicinity of a part of an original close to its binding margin part in making a book by moving a detector part in a plane perpendicular to the main scanning direction of a sensor, and making the part rotatable around the axis in the main scanning direction. CONSTITUTION:A pair of distance sensors 19 mounted on the detector part 1 respectively measure distances to an original. The inclination of the part 1 against the surface of the original is measured, and the rotating axis 2 is rotated by a motor 3 through a transmission belt 4, to control the detector part 1 to be perpendicular to the surface of the original. By using focus signals, the distance from the line image sensor 13 to the surface of the original is controlled. Consequently, image of the original formed by a lens 14 can be read successively.
