The flat key with several longitudinal rows of teeth causes rotation of a set of toothed wheels as it is inserted. The rows of teeth(6) commence at varying distances from the tip of the key(6), resulting in non-simultaneous onset of rotation of the toothed wheels(3). With the key fully inserted, transverse notches(8) in the wheels are aligned, permitting a cam(9) to descend into the notches releasing the latch. The wheels(3) are individually spring loaded towards the locked position. The final phase of key insertion causes the double lever(9, 9) to rotate about its pivot(10) engaging the cam(9') with the aligned notches(8).
|
