<p>Key is manufactured in two sections; the head and the shaft, joined by a tongue on the head fitting into an axial cylindrical recess in the shaft. The tongue(15) of the head(11) is weakened at two locations(16) and bends when forced into the shaft cavity to create a tight fit. The upper bend in the key head tongue(15) bears against an annular projection(27) inside the cylindrical cavity to prevent removal. The tongue(15) enters the cylinder through a transverse slot(25) which provides transverse location. The assembly process is reduced to one operation, i,e. inserting the tongue.</p> |
