摘要 <p>A drive mechanism is disclosed for use in a high speed printing apparatus for moving a printing carriage in opposite printing directions and which imparts a harmonic movement to the carriage when decelerating and accelerating the carriage during the changing of direction. The mechanism includes a constantly rotating endless drive belt to which is mounted a drive pin. The pin is positioned within a slot located in a guide member secured to the carriage for moving the carriage in opposite printing directions. The slot extends in a direction perpendicular to the path of movement of the belt allowing the pin to slide in the slot upon the pin changing direction. This movement of the pin will harmonically decelerate and accelerate the carriage when changing the direction of movement of the carriage.</p>
