Conventional gate latches include a latch bar on the gate and a latch bar receiver on the adjacent gate post. Both gates and fences often become misaligned so that the latch bar no longer enters the receiver jaws. In this device, the receiver is provided with diverging jaws and the latch bar is mounted so that if it is misaligned with the center of the receiver jaws, it can be urged into alignment by the diverging jaws. The latch bar is mounted for limited vertical movement and is held frictionally to a carrier plate secured to the gate.
|
