A breech head (2) which can be locked to a breech housing via blocking bodies is provided with a locking device (24) via which it is coupled during the recoil and forward movement to a control piece (3) which acts on the blocking bodies, in such a manner that no forces are transmitted from the spring-loaded control piece (3) to the blocking bodies. In order that decoupling of the two breech parts (2, 3) during the forward movement does not take place until immediately before the the frontmost firing position, but, in contrast, during the recoil movement, the control piece (3), which is moved via an unlocking rod, can move into the correct position for coupling the two breech parts (2, 3), means are provided for delaying the coupling during the recoil movement. The locking device (24) either comprises a guide body (35) and a locking part (24a) which can be displaced with respect thereto and can be supported on a lower surface (45) of the control piece (3), or there is play (S) between the guide surfaces (28) of the locking device (24) and of a guide groove (29a). <IMAGE>
