<p>The pump has a casing which tapers conically from the end suction inlet opening to the discharge volute. The back of the casing is a flat circular disc. The impeller consists of a conical hub carried on a shaft mounted centrally in the back of the casing and short radial blades. An annular conical space is left between the outer edges of the blades and the inside of the conical section of the casing. When the impeller revolves it generates a vortex which produces a cyclonic action in this space and it is this action which produces flow in the liquid. This method of producing pumping action prevents abrasion of the impeller by the solids contained in the liquid.</p> |
