According to the method, the dehumidifying takes place with a heat pump. The ambient temperature is regulated depending on the pool water temperature in such a manner that the ambient temperature is always higher than the pool water temperature. In this case, the ambient temperature is not lowered as usual in rest operation, but is raised. The device for implementing the method has a temperature regulator (33) with two outputs (37, 39), one of which (37) controls progressively the heating valve (42) in pool operation and the other of which (39), in rest operation, completely opens the heating valve (42) to maintain an ambient temperature which is raised in relation to pool operation, closes it when an upper temperature limit is reached and opens it completely again after a lower temperature limit is reached. While the fan runs constantly in pool operation, it only operates in rest operation when the heating valve is open. As a result of all these measures, the evaporation from the swimming pool is reduced in rest operation so that the heat pump (21) has to be switched on briefly by the hygrostat (31) only at long intervals in rest operation, which leads to a reduction in power and maintenance costs. <IMAGE>
