The gap between the rollers (10, 11) of a steel strip rolling mill is measured by a device with two arms (1, 2) pivoted on a common cross beam (3). The cross beam (3) is attached to a guide (4) which slides in a hole in the frame of the rolling mill (5). The ends of the arms (1, 2) have half shells (8, 9) which match the diameters of the rollers (10, 11). The arms (1, 2) are pressed together by a tension spring (15) but can be swung open by a power cylinder (16). The two halves (12, 13) of an inductive transducer are fitted, one half to each of the arms (1, 2). Any change in the gap between the rollers (6, 7) alters the distance between the halves (12, 13) of the transducer and changes its inductance. This change in inductance is used to produce an electrical indication of the change in gap dimension.
|
