The check valve for reciprocating air compressors has closure members (6), each being a flat resilient plate of W-shape lying against a flat surface of the valve housing. The central part of the 'W' is widened at its apex to define a closure plate covering a port in the housing (2). The end limbs of the 'W' are secured to the housing at their free ends. The housing is a triangular prism having one such closure plate at each of its three surfaces. A cover (4) at one end face (3) of the prism traps the free ends of the 'W' in position on the housing.
