PURPOSE:To decrease the hardware quantity for the rise of a computer system by storing an IOP initial program into a ROM contained in a CPU and therefore omitting a ROM to store the IOP initial program for an IOP. CONSTITUTION:A CPU 1 receives an end signal and transmits a command to an IOP 3 to load the IOP firmware to a common memory 2 via an external memory 4. Thus the IOP 3 loads the IOP firmware into a designated address of the memory 2 via the memory 4 and transmits the end signal to the CPU 1. The CPU 1 sends a command to the IOP 3 to replace an IOP initial program with the IOP firmware. Then the IOP 3 executes the IOP firmware and continues its working in the IOP firmware environment. When the replacement is through with the IOP firmware, the IOP 3 transmits an end signal and the CPU 1 proceeds to the next process.
