1537125 Liquid-cooled cylinder heads MOTOREN-UND TURBINEN-UNION FRIEDRICHSHAFEN GmbH 31 March 1976 [3 April 1975] 13011/76 Heading F1B In a cylinder head comprising a top part 11 and a base 14 formed of two parts 12 and 13, coolant chambers 33, 34, 35 are defined between the base parts and communicate with inlet apertures 26 adjacent the outer surface of the base. The part 13 may be a circular flat plate received in an aperture in the part 12 and supported on a shoulder 22 or the two parts may have facing chamber defining recesses and be of the same size, Figs. 3 to 5 (not shown). Ribs 32, between the walls 30 defining the valve ports 15 and the surrounding chamber walls, have apertures 36 for coolant flow from the outer coolant chambers 33, 34 and the inner chamber 35. Projecting walls 43 or ribs (42, Fig. 3), direct coolant to the apertures 37, 38 between the walls 30 to flow past a wall 31 defining an aperture 16 receiving a fuel injector or a precombustion chamber (50, Fig. 5). Apertures 41 in the part 13 provide outlets from the chamber 35 to the coolant chambers in the part 11. The part 11 and base 14 are secured together by screws 49 and the injector housing (44) or pre-combustion chamber screwed into the parts. A sealing ring 47 and a coating of plastics or metal on the part 11 or part 13 provide sealing.
