<p>A sleeved garment such as a jacket or overcoat made up from non-extensible material such as leather or fur has, at each armpit, a gusset making the garment more comfortable to wear, facilitating ventilation and permitting arm movements without pulling the side of the garment out of line. The gusset is formed by a piece of rib-knitted fabric or other elastic material with transverse stretched, roughly elliptical in shape, sewn at its edges to a strip of leather. The gusset diminishes to a point at each end so as to join the line of the seam between sleeve and body section, the edges of the leather strip being similarly sewn on the garment.</p> |
