<p>Solar energy can be used, partic. in tropical climates, to convert sea water or rain water into fresh water for irrigation or industrial purposes. The raw water is collected in a reservoir and allowed to pass through a slightly inclined evaporation tray where solar radiation causes it to evaporate. The hot vapours are drawn by ventilators into a system of tubes where they form a condensate. At the same time the latent heat which is released by the condensation process is used to heat the evapn. tray from below.</p> |
