<p>Pharmaceutical compsn. contg. a nitroimidazole antimicrobial agent (I) and a salt of mono- or di- hydroxybenzoic acid or a mixt. of this with mono- or di-hydroxybenzyl alcohol, are new. They are used to treat protozoal infections such as trichomoniasis, amoebiasis, and infections due to anaerobic bacterial, and have improved stability. (I) may be tinidazole, metronidazole, nimorazole, ornidazole, or bamnidazole. The acid is typically 2,3-, 3,4-, 3,5- and 2,5-dihydroxy benzoic acid (gentisic acid). The salt-forming base is pref. ammonium but sodium, L-arginine meglumine, ethanolamine and choline may also be used. Typically a soln. for i.v. injection, to pH 5.25 plus-or-minus 0.2, and water.</p> |
