PURPOSE:To freely select an optimum system and to reproduce an image having a satisfactory gradation by selecting a plurality of different types of image processing means on the basis of a selection command, and image-processing a multilevel image signal. CONSTITUTION:When a command for expressing a halftone density by using a pulse width modulation is sent from a host computer, an image process selection signal is output from an image process selection controller 14, a video input converter 10 is controlled on the basis of it, and an image signal is input to a PWM processor 12. A pulse width modulation process is conducted, a PWM signal is generated, and sent to a video output converter 13. The converter 13 supplies the PWM signal to a laser driver. Thus, an image of a halftone density is formed on a photosensitive drum. When a command for selecting a dithering is sent from the host computer, the image process selection signal is switched, the converters 10, 13 are switched to states for selecting the dithering process, and an image signal is sent to a dither processor 11. The dithered signal is sent to the laser driver. Thus, an image is formed by the dithered image signal. |
