Composite is formed by supporting Co bound WC particles of mesh size larger than that desired in the final composite in a mould at 2200 degrees F, heating a metal (steel) to 2800-3200 degrees F, pouring the melt into the mould and allowing to cool to form a composite of reduced size sintered WC particles surrounded by zones of high W, Co, and C content. Composite is harder and longer wearing than those made by prior art methods. The composite is used for bulldoser teeth, hammer mills, chutes or drill facings in mining or lock and safe construction.
|
