An electrical connector for removable connection with a flat strip having a plurality of spaced conductors thereon, such as a flexible printed circuit board or a length of ribbon wire. The connector includes a housing 7 containing a plurality of contacts 13, a clamping member 15 movable relative to the housing 7 between an insertion position and a clamping position, and a latch assembly 11, 12 for releasably securing the clamping member in the clamping position. The housing and clamping member define a strip- receiving channel, the channel being wider when said clamping member 15 is in the insertion position than when the clamping member is in the clamping position, so that a flat strip can be easily inserted into the connector with the clamping member in the insertion position, but the conductors will be firmly clamped against the contacts when the clamping member is in the clamping position. <IMAGE> |
