<p>Method of leaching-redn. of a material contg. oxides or hydroxides of Fe and Ni and/or Co so as to dissolve all the Fe, Ni and Co, comprises forming an aq. slurry of the material with >=5 wt % elementary S w.r.t. the (hydr)oxides and introducing SO2 into the slurry until the dissolution is complete. In the extraction of these metal from lateritic ores such as leinonite. The addition of a small amt. of S permits the leaching to be carried out without use of sulphuric acid by relying entirely on the acid formed in situ. In practice this addn. ensures a much faster dissoln. and allows excellent extn. yields in a reasonable time.</p> |
