1534696 Building blocks PRECISION RAMS Ltd 26 March 1976 [27 March 1975 11 June 1975] 13035/75 and 25097/75 Heading E1B [Also in Division B5] The blind or through cavities 22 of a concrete building block 20 are filled with expanded polystyrene. The cavities are charged with granules of pre-expanded polystyrene, which coalesce and fill the cavities on further expansion produced by tubes 15 lowered to pass steam into the granules. A tube-carried resilient pad 17 projects into each cavity to close it and define an "ullage". The tubes 15 then pass cooling air into the granules. As described, a plurality of blocks 20 are moulded on a pallet 28, autoclaved, and then presented by endless belts or chains 2 onto a lift table 3. A ram 3 lifts the table (guided by bars 4) and pneumatic rams 18 finally align the block cavities with corresponding apertures in a filler deck 5. Granules are fed under the control of photoelectric cell 8 into a hopper 6 for transferal to the block cavities by a reciprocated filler box 10. The heating and cooling tubes 15 are fed from a steam chest 13 sliding vertically on the bars 4. The feeding mechanism can be mounted on a travelling frame, and the blocks 20 placed on the floor. |
