<p>The releasable gastight pipe coupling for IC engine exhaust systems in vehicles is based on a joint design using spherical mating faces (3, 4). One of these (3) is formed in a solid flange-piece (2a) at inlet to the second pipe length (2); the other (4) by deformation of the first pipe end. An axially flexible cupped ring (6) fitting around the first pipe end, with lugs (6b) for securing bolts (9) through the flange on the second pipe, holds the two together. The mating faces should pref. embody a heat resisting seal (5). A stub pipe (7) projecting from the flange, clear of the first pipe, creates a stagnant zone inside the joint.</p> |
