1528274 Moulding tyre tread bands BEVERLEY Ltd 22 April 1977 [23 April 1976] 16592/76 Heading B5A Apparatus for producing an unvulcanized tread band from a strip 32 of unvulcanized material includes an annular mould 31 against the inner surface of which the strip is forced by an expandable annular member 34 with side walls extending from the zone of strip contact and biased outwardly, e.g. by circumferentially spaced springs 37, to maintain the member in tension when it is forced against the strip, e.g. by a gas bag 33 surrounding a metal casting 53. The edges of the sidewalls may be of zig-zag pattern with the strings connected between the points of the pattern and plates 38 carried by a column 41. The mould is mounted on a carriage 40. Additional bags may be located between the casting 53 and the bag 33. To vulcanize the thus formed band, the mould 31 may be heated and positioned over expansible segmented rings 21, 22, Fig. 2, forced outwardly by an hydraulic ram and cylinder assembly 27, 30. |
