<p>Heat store consists of a vessel contg. a storage material which stores latent when changing from the solid to the liquid state. Heat is transferred by means of an immiscible heat transfer liquid which is circulated round and external circuit. The specific gravity of the heat transfer liquid should be different from that of the storage material. An agitator element is mounted in the heat transfer liquid layer to create an intimate mixture between the storage material and the heat transfer liquid. If the specific gravity of the molten storage material is greater than that of the heat transfer material, the rotor is at the top- if vice versa then it is at the bottom. Device is used for storing heat esp. in conjunction with solar energy systems or heat pumps. Gives (a) improved heat transfer between the solidifying storage medium and the heat transfer liquid; (b) avoids mechanical stresses in the vessel due to volume changes; (c) the material solidifies into discreet particles and not into a single mass.</p> |
